Since its founding, CAKE was custom built to be an affiliate marketer’s tool. By the time CAKE called Grizzly, they had already achieved an 80% market penetration among global affiliate networks and, despite this success, were starting to feel pigeonholed. This rapid and highly specific growth presented CAKE with the unique challenge of developing a new strategy to expand beyond their saturated core verticals without alienating or distancing themselves from their first priority; their loyal userbase.
Initially, we were brought in to lead a brand overhaul. As we spent more time with the CAKE team uncovering the story behind the brand and paired our learnings with market research and demographic studies, it became clear that that they would need to evolve the product offering itself in order to appeal to a broader market. Using this foundation, we developed the voice and visual content necessary to communicate the product’s fundamental shift to their newly expanded B2B and B2C client bases. Furthermore, we designed a fully revamped identity system to faithfully reflect this sea change and wrapped it all up in a responsive website, complete with all manner of brand collateral, from photos to whitepapers to PowerPoints.
When the new CAKE brand and website launched, they were inundated with praise regarding both the revitalized brand and their new digital presence. Online engagement skyrocketed, with an average user retention increase of more than 400% and a corresponding substantial decrease in bounce rate. Additionally, they were able to launch their second product, CAKE for Advertisers, at the same time as the rebrand. Grizzly helped CAKE capitalize on the attention their makeover was receiving to shine a well-deserved spotlight on the new product. Ultimately, the brand, website, product updates, and messaging contributed to a 170% increase in stock valuation over the following 1.5 months.
